Our on-site team plans a host of optional afternoon/evening recreational events for participants, faculty, and their loved ones to join. Some of these options are free of charge or offered at a reduced rate for Cape Cod Institute participants.

Outdoor Activities on Cape Cod
Cape Cod is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts and families, offering an array of activities from hiking scenic trails to enjoying beautiful beaches and bike paths. Whether you're looking to explore nature or spend quality time with loved ones, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
Hiking
Nickerson State Park is located close to the Institute and is a wonderful place to explore. The Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce has a comprehensive list of Cape Cod trails and resources.
Biking, Running, and Walking

While The Cape Cod Institute does not provide childcare during the day, there are a variety of day camps options in the area. Visit our childcare page for more information.
Beaches & Ponds
On Cape Cod, you'll find no shortage of water activities. Whether you're drawn to the stunning views of the wild Atlantic Ocean, eager to wade in Cape Cod Bay, or looking to float in a freshwater pond, there's something for everyone. Bay beaches and freshwater ponds are especially great for kids.
An insider tip, if you plan to visit a bay beach, be sure to check the local tide chart beforehand. Additionally, parking regulations can vary from town to town, so we recommend visiting their websites for the most up-to-date information. To help you get started, we've compiled a short list of resources below.
The Cape Cod National Seashore
Composed of six beautiful beaches the National Seashore also offers free daily and weekly activities for families. If you plan to go more than twice during your visit, consider an annual pass for $60 to save. Find fee and pass information here.

The Town of Eastham
Eastham is home to seven bay beaches and three freshwater ponds. You can find information about access below and on the Eastham Chamber of Commerce website.
The Town of Wellfleet
Wellfleet has bay beaches and unique freshwater kettle ponds. Mayo Beach is free to access with no charge for parking. You can find more information about Wellfleet beaches and ponds here. To purchase a pass for the Wellfleet Bay beaches and fresh water kettle ponds, you will need to show a Proof of Stay from the property owner, realtor, or host of the establishment that you are staying in. Stickers can be purchased at the beach office located at the town pier.
